Residents of Pienaar, particularly in the Lihawu area, have been urged to stay alert following reports of ongoing housebreakings.
During a radio interview on the Provincial Breakfast Show hosted by Two6, SAPS Sergeant Themba, who is based in Pienaar under Visible Policing, warned that a group of five men is believed to be responsible for a series of break-ins in the area . The incidents have raised concern among community members as reports continue to emerge. Listen to the full interview audio recording for more details
Sergeant Themba encouraged residents to remain vigilant, secure their homes, and avoid confronting suspects. She also called on the community to work together by forming neighborhood night patrols to help reduce crime and improve safety. Neighborhood patrols do not need to be complex. Residents can organise simple schedules where volunteers monitor the area in groups, ensuring safety in numbers. Communication is also key, and communities are encouraged to create WhatsApp groups or other communication channels to share information quickly.
If you hear noises or see strangers sneaking, do not try to confront anyone. Instead, call the police immediately on 10111 (for emergencies) or Crime Stop at 08600 10111. When calling 10111, be ready to give your name, location (nearest street corner), and any details (number of suspects, descriptions, whether armed, and direction of flight). This information helps dispatch help quickly.
